School Directors must be proven community leaders who stay in touch with the changing needs of the children, parents, and taxpayers. I am proud of my involvement in our schools and my roles in both our boundary realignment efforts and the successful school facilities bond. In 2003, I coordinated the successful Citizens' petition drive in support of our District’s efforts to bring all of DuPont within the District. These efforts helped ensure that in the near future all of DuPont children will attend Steilacoom Historical School District #1 (SHSD #1) schools. It also helped ensure that all of DuPont’s tax base will be included within SHSD #1.
This year, I served as the Co-Executive Chair of our successful school bond campaign. I worked closely with both the citizens in the district and our board members in helping the board draft a plan meeting our facility requirements while maintaining our vision of community elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. I coordinated the efforts of over 40 volunteers, who worked diligently to make sure this bond passed.
It is this knowledge of key issues facing the district that makes me the most qualified candidate to represent you on your School Board. If elected to serve on the School Board I commit to keeping you, the taxpayer, fully informed of our activities, actions, and progress. We owe it to our children to provide excellent schools at all grade levels. We also owe it to our taxpayers to be good stewards of our tax dollars. Retaining our excellent teachers is a must in assuring that SHSD #1 continues to provide an excellent learning environment.
